Winter Growth is an original ink drawing of a bare winter tree in Tewkesbury Meadows, Gloucestershire, drawn directly onto a hand-cast cement tile by Birmingham artist Warren Garland (Warren Drawing Trees).
The tree is entwined with ivy, its branches reaching upward in delicate, tangled lines — the open tracery of bare winter growth contrasting with the dense central mass of the ivy. Tewkesbury Meadows are among the most significant flood meadows in England, an ancient landscape where the Avon and Severn meet, and this tree was drawn there on location in winter, when the form of a tree is most fully revealed.
Part of an ongoing body of tree studies made on location across the UK, this is a one-of-a-kind original — not a print or reproduction. Drawn directly onto hand-cast cement tile using archival black ink, the natural tonal shifts and surface variations of the cement remain visible, ensuring no two tiles are identical.
Framed in a bespoke wooden frame and presented in a custom box, it is ready to collect or give.
