Tewkesbury Hugger is a one-of-a-kind original ink drawing by UK artist Warren Garland. Found opposite the Travelodge in Tewkesbury, this tree has lost most of its leaves but is embraced—perhaps trapped—by a thick tangle of ivy. Whether the relationship is loving or parasitic is anyone’s guess, but it’s working for someone.
Drawn in lightfast ink on 150gsm acid-free paper, the piece combines quiet botanical observation with wry commentary on place, co-dependence, and awkward hotel breakfasts.

Equal parts poetic and pointed, Tewkesbury Hugger isn’t just about a tree—it’s about strange partnerships, creeping support, and the quiet power of holding on. The ivy is doing its best, even if it’s also slightly suffocating.
Pair that with a scathing sketch of a Travelodge and you’ve got a drawing that’s both beautiful and brutally honest. And yes, the staff were very nice.
