An original ink drawing of a broad-canopied tree in Clissold Park, Stoke Newington, London, drawn across twenty-four hand-cast cement tiles by Birmingham artist Warren Garland (Warren Drawing Trees).
The tree’s gentle bend and wide sheltering reach are mapped meticulously in fine line across the tile grid — each tile contributing to the wider picture like pages in a quiet story. The piece was made slowly, intuitively, layered mark by mark until the tree settled in. Though still, it holds presence. Made to hang like a fragment of landscape, architectural in form, organic in feel.
Clissold Park is one of North London’s most beloved green spaces, its Victorian park and walled garden sitting in the heart of Stoke Newington. This tree was drawn there on location, in the open air.
Subtle variations in tile tone and texture echo shifting light and shade across the surface, bringing sculptural depth to the work. At 84 × 54cm this is a significant piece — a centrepiece work for a considered wall.
One-of-a-kind original — not a print or reproduction.
