Warren Drawing Trees

This work is based on an original ink drawing made while walking through the New Forest in midwinter. The tree stood out for holding onto its leaves while the surrounding, more mature trees were bare, as if sheltered by them from the worst of the season. Whether that protection is real or imagined, the drawing became a quiet reflection on resilience, patience, and standing slightly apart.
The image has been hand-drawn in black ink directly onto individual cement tiles, which are then arranged to form the complete composition. The natural variation in tone, texture, and surface marks across the tiles is part of the work, giving the piece a subtle sense of age and material presence that contrasts with the delicacy of the drawing.
Each tile is unique, and the drawing flows across their joins, creating a fragmented yet unified image that shifts slightly depending on how it is viewed.
