An original hand-printed positive cyanotype of a small tree on the central reservation at the far end of Moseley Road, Birmingham, by Birmingham artist Warren Garland (Warren Drawing Trees).
Compared to the trees around it, this one seems to have hesitated. Just beginning. But perhaps that’s not such a bad thing. It stands in a place that’s been stripped of its past — once full of Victorian houses, now overwritten by concrete, dual carriageways, and a modernist dream long turned dystopian. This tree is a quiet act of defiance — tipping its toe in, refusing to be hurried.
In this positive version the indigo sits on a pale ground, offering a softer, more contemplative take on the original drawing. Drawn from life on location on Moseley Road and printed using a traditional light-sensitive cyanotype process, this piece holds a sense of hope in a place where little else remains rooted.
Made using traditional cyanotype techniques, hand-coated and exposed using sunlight onto 200gsm acid-free paper. Each print is unique and may vary slightly in tone and texture. One-of-a-kind.
