This positive cyanotype print features a small tree found on a central reservation at the far end of Moseley Road, Birmingham. In this version, the indigo print sits on a pale ground, offering a softer, more contemplative take on the original drawing.
Compared to the trees around it, this one seems to have hesitated. Just beginning. But perhaps that’s not such a bad thing. It stands in a place that’s been stripped of its past—once full of Victorian houses, now overwritten by concrete, dual carriageways, and a modernist dream long turned dystopian. This tree is a quiet act of defiance—tipping its toe in, refusing to be hurried.
Drawn from life and printed using a traditional light-sensitive cyanotype process, this piece holds a sense of hope in a place where little else remains rooted.
