An original hand-printed positive cyanotype of a leaning tree on the slopes of Malvern, Worcestershire, by Birmingham artist Warren Garland (Warren Drawing Trees).
The original drawing was made on location on a hillside in Malvern, where this tree grows at a gravity-defying angle. In this positive version the image is flipped from its negative — the tree now stands in rich indigo on a light background, bolder, quieter, and somehow more rooted. Transferring the ink drawing to a cyanotype gives it a whole new atmosphere: a calm echo of the original, captured using a traditional light-sensitive printing process.
The Malvern Hills are an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the Worcestershire and Herefordshire border, one of England’s most distinctive upland landscapes. This tree was drawn there on location, observed on the slope in the open air.
This print is part of a pair — the companion negative version is also available.
Made using traditional cyanotype techniques, hand-coated and exposed using sunlight onto 300gsm acid-free fine art paper. One-of-a-kind — no two are ever the same.
