An original hand-printed negative cyanotype of a leaning tree on the slopes of Malvern, Worcestershire, by Birmingham artist Warren Garland (Warren Drawing Trees).
The drawing was made on location on a hillside in Malvern, paired here with the delicate outlines of pressed cow parsley. In this negative version the tree and plant emerge as white silhouettes floating on a deep indigo field — the rich blue ground and soft painterly edges unique to the cyanotype process. Made with sunlight, water, and a little unpredictability.
The Malvern Hills are an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the Worcestershire and Herefordshire border, one of England’s most distinctive upland landscapes. This tree was drawn there on location, observed on the slope in the open air.
This print is part of a pair — the companion positive version is also available.
Made using traditional cyanotype techniques, hand-coated and exposed using sunlight onto archival paper. A single exposure — no reprints, no copies. One-of-a-kind.
