An original handmade cyanotype inspired by a solitary pine on the Lickey Hills in Worcestershire.
This artwork began as a reference photograph taken during one of my walks. I regularly photograph trees as visual notes for future drawings, but some images lend themselves to becoming artworks in their own right through the cyanotype process.
Captured on a quiet, foggy morning, the pine stood above a landscape slowly disappearing into the mist. The rich Prussian blue and handmade nature of the cyanotype process echo the calm atmosphere of that morning, creating a unique artwork that sits somewhere between photography and printmaking.
Each piece is individually hand-coated, exposed using a UV light source and carefully developed by hand. Brush marks, soft edges and subtle tonal variations are part of the process, making every cyanotype completely unique.
