An original handmade cyanotype inspired by a solitary pine tree standing on the Lickey Hills in Worcestershire.
This artwork began as a reference photograph taken during one of my early morning walks. I regularly photograph trees while exploring the landscape as visual references for future drawings. Occasionally, an image carries its own quiet presence and naturally evolves into a cyanotype.
Captured on a misty morning, the lone pine rises above the surrounding landscape, its distinctive silhouette softened by fog. The traditional cyanotype process enhances the calm atmosphere of the original scene, with deep Prussian blues and hand-coated textures creating a unique artwork that balances photography, printmaking and observation.
Each cyanotype is individually hand-coated, exposed using a UV light source and carefully developed by hand. The brush marks, soft edges and subtle variations in tone are a natural part of the process, ensuring every artwork is entirely unique.
