Lickey Hills Hawthorn – Framed Original Handmade Cyanotype

An original handmade cyanotype, professionally framed and ready to hang, inspired by a solitary hawthorn on the summit of the Lickey Hills in Worcestershire.

This artwork began as a reference photograph taken during one of my morning walks. I regularly photograph trees while exploring the landscape as visual notes for future drawings. Occasionally, an image feels complete in its own right and becomes a cyanotype.

Taken on the same foggy morning as the Lickey Hills Pine, this hawthorn stood quietly overlooking the hilltop near the car park, its delicate network of branches emerging from the mist. The soft atmosphere and deep Prussian blue tones of the cyanotype process preserve the stillness of that morning, creating a one-of-a-kind handmade artwork.

Each cyanotype is individually hand-coated, exposed using a UV light source and carefully developed by hand. Brush marks, soft edges and subtle tonal variations are part of the traditional process, making every artwork completely unique.
