Compact Crown is an original ink drawing of a tree in Burley, New Forest, drawn directly onto a hand-cast cement tile by Birmingham artist Warren Garland (Warren Drawing Trees).
The tree is self-contained and considered — its canopy dense and rounded, branches held close, the whole form carrying a quiet assurance. Burley sits within one of England’s oldest and most protected ancient woodlands, and this tree was drawn on location, observed in the way the New Forest demands: unhurried, with full attention to form.
Part of an ongoing body of urban and rural tree studies made on location across the UK, this is a one-of-a-kind original — not a print or reproduction. Drawn directly onto hand-cast cement tile using archival black ink, the natural tonal shifts and surface variations of the cement remain visible, ensuring no two tiles are identical.
Framed in a bespoke wooden frame and presented in a custom box, it is ready to collect or give.
