Broad Canopy is an original ink drawing of a tree in Cannon Hill Park, Birmingham, drawn directly onto a hand-cast cement tile by Birmingham artist Warren Garland (Warren Drawing Trees).
The tree is defined by horizontal spread and quiet stability — its dense, flattened crown extending outward in a wide arc of looping line, the trunk anchoring the composition with weight and restraint. It feels sheltering, expansive yet composed. Cannon Hill Park is one of Birmingham’s most loved public parks, sitting alongside the mac arts centre in Edgbaston, and this tree was drawn there on location in the open air.
Part of an ongoing body of tree studies made on location across Birmingham and the UK, this is a one-of-a-kind original — not a print or reproduction. Drawn directly onto hand-cast cement tile using archival black ink, the natural tonal shifts and surface variations of the cement remain visible, ensuring no two tiles are identical.
Framed in a bespoke natural wood frame and presented in a custom box, it is ready to collect or give.
