Beacon Hill Tree is an original ink drawing inspired by a tree on the summit of Beacon Hill in the Lickey Hills, drawn directly onto a hand-cast cement tile by Birmingham artist Warren Garland.

Known to generations of local people as Beacon Hill, this high point has long been a place of gathering. Once used as a communication point across the landscape, it later became somewhere to escape the city, offering panoramic views across Birmingham and, on clear days, as far as the Black Mountains in Wales.

For me, it also holds more personal memories. Growing up nearby, Friday evenings often ended here with friends, sharing stories, watching the city below and marking the end of another school week. Returning years later, the landscape feels unchanged. The tree still stands quietly, carrying its own history while becoming part of countless others.

Part of an ongoing body of urban and rural tree studies made on location across the UK, this is a one-of-a-kind original—not a print or reproduction. Drawn directly onto a hand-cast cement tile using archival black ink, the natural texture and warm variations of the cement remain visible, ensuring every piece is completely unique.

Framed in a bespoke wooden frame and presented in a custom presentation box, it is ready to display, collect or give as a thoughtful gift.
