Athens Tree – Framed Cement Tile Drawing

This piece is based on an original ink drawing made in Athens, near the National Archaeological Museum. The tree grows in a hard, urban setting, its trunk twisted and scarred, shaped as much by human interference as by time. It stood out not for its beauty alone, but for its persistence — continuing to grow in a place that feels at odds with nature.
The drawing has been made directly onto a cement tile using black ink. The surface carries its own quiet history: subtle tonal shifts, small imperfections, and marks that speak to the material’s industrial origins. Rather than being disguised, these qualities are allowed to remain visible, becoming part of the finished work.
The tile is presented in a simple wooden frame, giving the piece weight and presence while keeping the focus on the drawing itself. The contrast between the delicacy of the line and the solidity of the cement reflects the tension between fragility and endurance that runs through much of my work.
