“The last week has been a tough one. When i spotted this tree everything was full of beauty and potential. Unfortunately posting it today things seem a little lesser. You’ll find this tree in the victorian garden of Elvaston Castle. The gothic revival castle and gardens are remarkably shabby but also quite beautiful.
The gardens was commissioned by the the 4th Earl of Harrington so he and his wife could spend time in a “private and secluded oasis of great beauty” but unfortunately after the death and their only child, the couple became withdrawn and would only spend time in the house and forbade anyone to use the garden.
Needless to say the place has a somber edge, but a nice place to be, especially on the old stone benches with good company and the sun on your face.” - Warren Garland, 8 April, 2024
