The unusual arrangement gives the tree an almost sculptural quality, its shape suggesting a history of growth and adaptation to its surroundings.

The drawing is constructed through hundreds of fine, overlapping ink marks, capturing the complicated structure of the foliage while allowing the individual character of the tree to emerge.

Drawn directly onto a hand-cast Portland cement tile, with colour pigments incorporated into the cement mixture, the delicate black ink lines contrast with the weight and solidity of the material. Subtle variations of pale blue and warm cream move across the surface, creating a softly coloured background unique to this particular casting.

Presented in a dark wooden frame, the piece brings together the organic forms of the natural landscape with a material more commonly associated with architecture and construction.

Part of an ongoing body of work exploring individual trees, their surroundings and the relationship between nature and the built environment. Each drawing records a particular tree in a particular place, celebrating the unusual forms and quiet details that can easily go unnoticed.

This is a one-of-a-kind original artwork, not a print or reproduction.

Details

Original ink drawing on hand-cast Portland cement tile

Colour pigments incorporated into the cement mixture

Location: Malvern Hills, Worcestershire

Tile size: approximately 10cm × 10cm

Dark wooden frame

One-of-a-kind original artwork

Signed by the artist

Handmade in the UK

Collecting Original Tree Drawings | Cement Tile Art Guide

How Cement Tile Art Is Made

Choosing Art as a Gift

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0854/7909/6648/files/FullSizeRender_acd97437-b52d-45bf-883c-979d2a3235c0.jpg?v=1792760000
